CUMIS Diesel Engine Camshaft
The camshaft, an integral component of a piston engine, is responsible for regulating the opening and closing of the valves. In a four - stroke engine, although the rotational speed of the CUMIS camshaft is half that of the crankshaft (whereas in a two - stroke engine, their speeds are identical), it typically operates at a relatively high speed and endures substantial torque. Given these demanding conditions, camshafts require high strength and reliable support, and they are commonly fabricated from high - quality alloy steel. Since the valve movement significantly influences an engine's power output and operational characteristics, the design of the camshaft holds a pivotal position in the development process of a diesel generator engine.

Cumis Camshaft Installation
To facilitate the measurement of the cam's axial clearance, the camshaft timing gear is typically installed on the camshaft prior to its installation in the engine. It is crucial to ensure that the fit between the semicircular key and the keyway is neither too loose. Subsequently, the compression bolt of the camshaft timing gear should be securely tightened. After applying oil to the cam journal, hold the camshaft with both hands, gently rotate it from side to side, and then carefully insert it into the camshaft hole. The camshaft must rotate smoothly without any looseness. Finally, tighten the camshaft timing gear bolt 7 and the camshaft thrust pad bolt 5.

Common Faults of Camshafts
The camshafts manufactured by our company are highly reliable, with a service life exceeding 500,000 kilometers under normal operating conditions. Only a small number of issues may occur, such as burned or outer - rotated bearings. The primary causes of these problems are either an excessively small matching clearance between the shaft and the kit or severe wear of the bearing kit, which leads to oil leakage and insufficient lubrication of the camshaft bushing. Additionally, if the camshaft key and the keyway have a loose fit, they are prone to damage during operation, which can disrupt the engine's gas distribution accuracy.
