The camshaft in a Volvo diesel engine serves to drive and regulate the opening and closing of the valves in each cylinder, ensuring that the process aligns with the engine's working sequence, valve timing, and the variation in valve opening.

 

Structurally, the camshaft is primarily made up of a cam and a cam journal.

 

Regarding the cam profile, it's crucial that the duration of valve opening and closing meets the valve timing requirements. Moreover, the cam profile determines the valve's maximum lift and movement.
